0161 Manchester

15 July to 8 October 2006

This interactive, evolving exhibition featured stories, ideas, memories and thoughts from the people of Manchester about what it means to be Mancunian.

With archive footage and photographs, jaw-dropping statistics and facts, film interviews, photographic portraits and poems from the people of Manchester, the exhibition was created for families and provided all visitors with the opportunity to become writers, artists and contributors.

Our Manchester Accent Theater used movement to trigger speakers, where recorded voices were projected, illustrating the breadth and depth of different accents throughout the region.

A number of events were also run to coincide with the exhibition including a fun session with Professor Mark Langley on  How to Speak in Manc.

“Made me proud and made me smile.  Fantastic city and fantastic people”

“Best exhibition ever, never been to Manchester before and this is the perfect way to get to know it for real. Brings the city to life”

“Realistic, authentic, interesting, colourful -  that’s Manchester”
