Learning and Community
The Urbis Learning programme was highly innovative, offering topical education programmes reflective of real issues affecting real Manchester citizens. The core programme was divided into three strands – Manchester – Understanding the City, Citizenship, and Media & Culture – offering schools and colleges the opportunity to work outside the classroom and across the curriculum. The programme was designed to ensure teachers and pupils can explore diverse and exciting ways in which creativity can be applied through different kinds of learning.
Urbis also ran an extremely successful Adult Learning Programme, with workshop subjects varying from Digital Photography to Handmade skill swaps. Particularly worth noting was the Urban Exposures programme which gave a fresh contemporary update to the ‘Camera Club’ and promoted an innovative approach to photographing cities. Over 50 participants were involved, and the best results were exhibited at Urbis.
The Language Sofa provided a relaxed enviroment for visitors to brush up on their foreign language skills. The friendly, informal workshop sessions catered for Castillian Spanish, English, French, Polish, and Russian at both Beginners and Advanced level.
